The Rosé Revolution

What is summer without a delicious glass of Rosé? I think it is that gorgeous soft pink colour that screams “summer” in capital letters. My friends and I use this delicious wine as an excuse to meet up, it is truly magical when the two are brought together. I mean, if it wasn’t that delicious there wouldn’t be a national “Rosé Day”, yes it's true. The favourite this summer was the blush Rosé poured into stemless wine glasses, along with sunhats and umbrellas for the perfect day. Discovering this new wine in Poland surprised me. The Polish prefer the darker reds when it comes to wine. Last year in Poland I was introduced to a new breed of women, hardworking, gumboot clad, driven and proud. These Polish winemakers who are only too eager to share a glass of their finest vintage. and there is always a wonderful story of how they began their journey into the world of wine making. Inviting us to sit with them in their offices, crammed with everything they need to run these boutique wineries, these vineyard owners were delightful. They were passionate about their wines and you could feel it, and great to see so many women in the Polish wine industry. They made us feel very at home, wanting to talk about New Zealand wines, and especially keen to know what we thought of their wines. After five or six tastings it was hard not to get caught up in this new and curious world of new this new wine community. Sipping wine and talking wine I was in really in heaven, I can honestly say I am impressed with the range of wine being produced in Poland. I am back this year to meet more innovative and dedicated winemakers. Special thanks to Agnieszka from Wieliczka Winnica and Barbara from Plochockich Winnica, we will be back!
